When Window Cleaning is Tough

Saturday, March 31st, 2007

I started my window cleaning business 6 years ago and today I cleaned the toughest window I think I have ever cleaned out of over 100,000. I was working on an older home with a lot of paint chipping off the windows. I saw a number of pictures of a little girl about 2 years old and the grandmother was home so I asked for a vacuum cleaner due to lead-paint chip concerns and the baby.
The grandmother informed me that her 24-month old healthy granddaughter had just died a few days before of CROUP. I was a bit shocked to say the least. I slowly worked my way through the rest of this house and the last window I got to was in a light yellow nursery behind a gliding rocker and beside a crate full of toys. On the lower window sash of this double hung window were the tiniest little greasy finger prints made by a little girl standing just a little over 2 feet tall peering out that window. I just sat there bearly containing myself before I could build up the courage to forever wash away those
greasy little pads.

My business doesn’t usually have any deep considerations but I nearly lost it as I erased those fingerprints. I cannot even begin to imagine the pain of the death a child or the absolute deafening silence that comes with losing your only child. I would ask you to keep this young couple in your prayers.

I will never again take for granted little greasy fingerprints on windows.

Comment Formatting

Hey, all

In my comments, I frequently add formatting such as bold or italicized text, and even block quotes. With all the commenting going on, if you want to do the same, I’ve scratched out some really quick instructions in a new, “Comment Formatting” page.

P.S. I also added both the Eimers’ blogs to the list of family websites. If this list is missing any, let me know and I’ll get them right on there.

The Myth of Moral Neutrality

Saturday, March 17th, 2007

Here is a great article on the “progressive” myth of moral neutrality. I promise it is ok to visit TownHall.com I regularly visit Dailykos.com and MoveOn.org and nothing bad happens to me.

My opinion on General Pace’s comments is:
It was politically inept to say but by no means should be career ending. I suppose Gen Pace could always check into rehab and all would be forgiven.

Core Principles

Friday, March 16th, 2007

At Grandpa’s 88th, Dad, David, John, Kathleen, Charles and I (with Evan acting as an intermittent monitor) came up with the following Core Principles for Conservatives and Progressives.  We had fun creating and debating the lists.  What say ye?

 Core Conservative Principles

1. Limited Government

2. Maximum individual reponsibility

3. Fiscal prudence/limited taxation

4. Private ownership of property and production

5. Right to bear arms

6. Regarding the Constitution: strictly constructionist

7. Freedom of religion

8. Protection of life

Core Progressive Principles

1. Oppostion to Absolutism

2. Preferential option for the a) weak vs. strong, b) people vs. rules, c) inclusion vs. exclusion, d) peace vs. war

3. Preferrence for truth and education over established belief systems and traditions

4. Preference for community over hyper-individualism
