Help and Tips
I’ve included this page to help those who are new to this site to get the most out of it. It’s a quick overview of how the site is organized and some tips on how to use it. (It is not yet complete)
Site Organization
This site is primarily organized as a blog in which everyone in the family can author a post.
Home Page
The home page (the page you get when going to www.816pine.com or by clicking the home link at the top of the site) will list the top 10 most recent posts, with the most recent posts being at the top and less recent towards the bottom.
Notification
This blog is available as a news feed. If you are familiar with news feeds and aggregators, the feed URLs can be found as links at the bottom of the page. If you are not, and you would like notification of new posts or new comments on the site, you should read about news aggregators.
Writing
If you just want to comment on an existing post, click the headline of that post and scroll to the bottom of the page. You will either see a place to enter your comment, or a link prompting you to log in first.
If you want to write a new post, click the “post” link at the top (once logged in). You will need to simply give your post a title and type in the content. When you are complete, you can click “publish” and your post will appear on the home page for everyone else to see.
When writing, you should also select the categories in which your post would be most appropriate. When posting, there is a categories box on the right side that lets you place a checkmark next to the appropriate categories.
Pictures
If you’d like to blog a photograph, I’ve provided a tool for that. When you click “post” you will see an “upload photo” link at the top. Use that to upload the photo. It is recommended that you upload the full size image if possible and not attempt to shrink it. The site will create an appropriately sized version of the image and also allow people to download the full size version.
When you upload a photo, you provide a title for the post and a description. After the upload is complete, you will be on the post page with the image and your text already entered for you. You can make any desired changes and then click “Publish” when you are ready to post the image.
… more to come…
